Meet Carussin: Bruna, Luigi, Luca & Matteo. They work together as a family producing genuine wine, true to their Piemonte’s soil while also giving back to the land & community, both locally and globally. Their vineyards are mostly planted to Barbera but they also work with Grignolino, Nebbiolo, Cortese, Moscato, & an ancient white native variety: Carica l’Asino (see below). All wines are made with respect to you and the land without use of chemicals. Their Ciuchinoi is dedicated to help protect the biodiversity of the Amazon Rainforest 🌱 through the Otonga Association created in Ecuador by Father Giuseppe Onore . It is a project very dear to their hearts and the profits are sent to support this program. Bruna’s other love is her donkeys, which she uses to help children communicate through the help of nature and 3 different labels from children adorn the bottles of Ciuchinoi. So much love and respect for their integrity, family, hard work and wine!
Winery Info: In the lower Monferrato Asti area, (between Nizza Monferrato and Canelli), on the hills of San Marzano Oliveto the tradition of the Ferro family and the Carussin winery has lived for five generations. Originally founded in 1927 with a vineyard of only 4 hectares and eventually growing over the years to increase the area planted to the current 15 hectares (with an additional 6 from Luigi’s Father and Uncles land). Their land also encompasses fields of barley for the production of their Clan!Destino beer. In the 1960’s, the winery grew, thanks to Bruna’s father who maintained the quality of their grapes in both land and in the cantina. In 1981, Bruna a young woman working with wine meets Luigi, her husband. Together they use her experience and sensibility of working the land in a natural way that her father had laid in place and join together to work. Since 1984, no chemicals have been used for the land or winemaking and they are certified Bio from Suolo and Salute for more than 20 years, here biodynamic principles are applied both in the vineyard and in the cellar. The grapes grown are the traditional varieties of the territory. Only manual harvests, spontaneous vinification with native yeasts and minimal interference in the natural process of the transformation of the grapes into wine. Carussin is a member of Vinnatur.
A little bit about the variety: Carica l’Asino Production area: Town of San Marzano Oliveto, typical area of production of this DOCG wine. The story of this wine is very special and it starts in 2005 when the farm purchased a stable surrounded by vineyards, at a region called “Valle Asinari” (“Valley of the Donkeys”). These vineyards are grown and soon it is discovered the diversity of two parcels of Cortese Alto Monferrato. The previous owner, a vivid lady of 95yrs, her husband found out about the variety, “Carica l’Asino” (“Load the Donkey”), through their friends from Acqui Terme, they decided to grow it on their land in the region of “Valle Asinari” (Valley of the Donkeys”). The coincidence of “Carica l’Asino” in that region combined with Bruna’s passion for Donkeys gave birth to the “Carica l’Asino” white wine. This wine has a longevity of 2/3+ years.
